Arrhythmia Treatment
The type of arrhythmia treatment,treatment for arrhythmia depends on the kind of arrhythmia and location that causes the arrhythmia. There are four types of arrhythmia, fibrillation, tachycardia, bradycardia and premature contractions.Bradycardia means the heart beats too slowly, tachycardia means it beats too rapidly, irregular beats like premature contractions cause a palpitation and fibrillation is a quivering of the heart. Most premature beats don't require any treatment and often occur in perfectly healthy people, particularly in teens. These can be uncomfortable but their occurrence often ceases without treatment. Tachycardia, too fast of a heartbeat is extremely uncomfortable but in some cases not as serious as other heart arrhythmias. The sinus tachycardia means the heart simply beats rapidly but in synchronization. This comes from stress, overexertion and sometimes anemia. In these cases, treating the underlying cause is important. Atrial tachycardia means the upper chambers beat faster. It is often an electrical problem of the heart. Ventricular tachycardia is life threatening and needs immediate attention. In both cases, medication or surgically destroying the additional node that causes the problem is important. Sometimes doctors use an implantable cardioverter defibrillator into the heart. Bradycardia is the slow heart rate. Normally there is no need to treat this unless the symptoms are prolonged and continuous. Sometimes doctors use an artificial pacemaker to increase the rhythm for the heart or they look towards the patient's medications and adjust them so it doesn't occur. Fibrillation occurs in the upper chambers, atrial, and the lower chambers, ventricular. Fibrillation is a quivering heart. It doesn't really pump blood but simply shakes like a bowl of Jell-O. When this occurs, no blood pumps throughout the body and it might be life threatening. Atrial fibrillation increases the risk of stroke and ventricular fibrillation stops the heart and is an emergency problem. When atrial fibrillation occurs there are an uneven pumping and the heart doesn't squeeze out all the blood. The blood pools and there may be a clot that forms. The clot can cause a stroke if it goes to the brain. It also causes chronic fatigue and can be responsible for heart failure. Doctors normally restore the rhythm either wit medication or electrical shock, attempt to prevent blood clots and reduce the risk of stroke. They use medications to slow the heart rate. Sometimes, they use surgery to disrupt the electrical paths that create the disturbance or plant an atrial pacemaker under the skin. For arrhythmia treatment,treatment for ventricular fibrillation is far more urgent. This type of heart quiver causes death if untreated or a medical emergency when treated rapidly. A defibrillator is the first line of defense to get the heart back into rhythm. Next doctors either control the problem with medication or an implantable cardioverter defibrillator if the patient is high risk.
